The Greater Scaup is a diving duck and closely resembles the Lesser Scaup. The Greater Scaup has a very round head with a greening color while the Lesser Scaup is different.
The female scaup are more difficult to differentiate the Greater from the Lesser. Having searched through my resources, I have concluded that this is a Greater Scaup.
With all scaup, Ring-necked Ducks and Tufted Ducks, this is a common sight as they frequently lunge themselves into the water in search of food.
